Our client, a leader in the rail infrastructure sector, is currently seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a long-term contract position based in Huddersfield. This role offers an opportunity to work on a high-profile rail project, providing commercial support and ensuring successful project delivery outside IR35 regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide pre/post contract commercial support for designated projects, including subcontract, materials, and direct labour.
  • Ensure projects are delivered within cost and time constraints.
  • Act as a primary interface working with Project Managers, Work Package Managers, key stakeholders, and suppliers.
  • Responsible for project work package change control and management.
  • Provide contractual and commercial support to Project Managers and Engineering.
  • Responsible for work package cost management, including forecasting, budget management, and control.
  • Monitor and actively manage and mitigate work package risks.
  • Produce internal and external commercial reports in line with the Commercial Delivery Strategy.
  • Ensure processes and document control comply with appropriate company standards.
  • Establish and maintain interfaces with key stakeholders such as finance, project management, engineering, sub-contractors, suppliers, and customers.

Job Requirements:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent and/or holding or working towards a professional qualification (RICS, ICES, or similar).
  • Strong track record in a contractor-side project environment.
  • Ability to manage both direct labour and subcontract costs.
  • Skill in estimating change/variations using various methods.
  • Able to forecast cost and measure the cost of work completed.
  • Good negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage commercial strategies.
  • Capability to work with limited supervision and manage expectations.
  • Good financial and commercial acumen.
  • Proficiency in working under own initiative and managing cost or time critical conditions.
  • Sound contractual knowledge and experience.
  • Confidence and ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both internally and externally.
