Role OverviewWe are seeking an experienced and confident Children's Residential Team Leader (EBD) to provide day-to-day leadership within a children's residential home supporting young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
You will lead by example, ensuring high standards of care, safeguarding and behaviour support while promoting a structured, trauma-informed and nurturing environment. You will support staff development, oversee shifts and contribute to positive outcomes for children and young people.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Shift Management- Lead shifts effectively, ensuring safe staffing levels and high-quality care at all times
- Act as a role model for staff, promoting best practice in EBD and trauma-informed care
- Allocate tasks, supervise practice and provide guidance during shifts
- Support and mentor Residential Support Workers, including new starters
Care, Behaviour & Therapeutic Practice- Support young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs in line with care and behaviour support plans
- Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour safely and professionally
- Ensure consistent boundaries, routines and restorative approaches are applied by the team
- Support the implementation of therapeutic approaches and positive behaviour strategies
Safeguarding & Risk Management- Take lead responsibility for safeguarding on shift, escalating concerns appropriately
- Ensure risk assessments, behaviour support plans and care plans are followed and updated
- Respond to incidents, including physical interventions where required, ensuring policies are followed
- Review and quality-check incident reports, logs and daily records
Quality, Compliance & Ofsted- Ensure the home operates in line with Ofsted Quality Standards and Children's Homes Regulations
- Maintain accurate records, audits and documentation
- Support the Registered Manager/Deputy Manager with inspections and monitoring visits
- Promote a culture of reflection, learning and continuous improvement
Multi-Agency & Communication- Liaise professionally with social workers, families, schools and external professionals
- Represent the home in meetings when required
- Contribute to placement planning, reviews and care planning processes
Person SpecificationEssential- Significant experience working in children's residential care, ideally with EBD
- Proven ability to lead, supervise and support staff
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection and risk management
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour confidently and calmly
- Knowledge of Ofsted regulations and Quality Standards
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends, sleep-ins and on-call duties
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain)
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
- Working towards or willing to complete Level 5 Leadership and Management
- Training in Team Teach, MAPA or similar behaviour management approaches
- Experience contributing to Ofsted inspections
