Job Title: Junior Electrical Estimator (Commercial/Industrial)

Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Electrical Estimator to support our estimating team on commercial and industrial electrical construction projects. This role assists in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for projects such as office buildings, retail facilities, manufacturing plants, distribution centres, processing facilities, and other large-scale installations. The ideal candidate will understand electrical systems used in commercial/industrial environments and is eager to grow within a fast-paced preconstruction team.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Takeoffs
- Assist with detailed quantity takeoffs for commercial/industrial electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, containment, lighting & lighting controls, life-safety systems, low voltage, and earthing.
- Support the development of labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates.
- Help evaluate constructability, site conditions, phasing, and labour productivity factors typical of commercial and industrial environments.
- Maintain and update cost databases, assemblies, and historical pricing.
Project Documentation & Analysis
- Review drawings, specifications, drawings, and addenda for completeness and accuracy.
- Identify scope gaps, clarification items, and risk factors specific to commercial/industrial jobs (eg, heavy equipment installation, coordination with mechanical/process systems).
- Assist in preparing scope sheets, bid summaries and value-engineering proposals.
Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination
- Request, track, and scrutinise supplier & sub-contractor quotes pricing for switchgear, transformers, lighting, fire alarms, security and specialised industrial equipment, ensuring alignment with project scope
Collaboration
- Work closely with senior estimators and project managers throughout the bid process.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and coordination sessions.
- Communicate with internal teams regarding design concerns, schedule considerations, and installation challenges.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Time served electrician or a background in electrical design
- Experience in electrical estimating in commercial/industrial installations is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Good understanding of commercial/industrial electrical systems, including:
- Distribution equipment (Switchboards, Distribution boards, containment).
- Small Power, Lighting & Lighting controls
- Conduit and cable systems in various environments (indoor, outdoor, industrial).
- Specialised systems such as fire alarm, data, access control, communications, and automation.
- Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with Trimble Estimating software is advantageous. Training can be provided.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
