Social Worker - Cared For Children (Children in Care) Torbay Council Children's Services
About the Role Torbay Council is looking for a committed and child-focused Social Worker to join our Cared For Children (Children in Care) Team.
In this role, you will work with children and young people who are looked after by the local authority, building strong, trusting relationships and delivering high-quality care planning to achieve stability, permanency, and positive long-term outcomes. You will work closely with carers, families, and partner agencies to ensure every child's voice is central to planning and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities -
Manage a caseload of children and young people who are cared for by the local authority

Complete high-quality care planning in line with statutory requirements and timescales

Undertake direct work with children and young people to understand their wishes and feelings
-
Chair and contribute to looked after child reviews and multi-agency meetings

Work towards permanence through reunification, special guardianship, long-term fostering, or adoption
-
Maintain strong working relationships with foster carers, residential providers, and families
-
Prepare clear, analytical reports for reviews, legal meetings, and court
-
Ensure accurate and timely recording in line with statutory guidance and local procedures
What We're Looking For as a Cared For Social Worker Essential:

Degree or recognised qualification in Social Work (BA/MA/DipSW)

Registered with Social Work England

Experience in statutory children's social work
-
Strong knowledge of looked after children legislation, care planning, and permanence
-
Ability to build meaningful relationships with children, young people, and carers
-
Strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills
Desirable:
-
Experience working in a Cared For Children/Children in Care team

Knowledge of care leavers legislation and transition planning
-
Court experience and understanding of permanency planning
