Role Overview We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed
Functional Skills Maths Tutor to deliver high quality Maths teaching to learners at
HMP The Mount.
You will work with small groups to develop numeracy skills, build confidence, and help learners progress towards accredited qualifications that support their long term personal and employment goals.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real impact, helping learners gain essential life skills while supporting rehabilitation and future employability. You will design structured learning plans, deliver engaging lessons, and ensure a positive, inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities Teaching & Learning Delivery - Deliver engaging and inclusive Maths sessions tailored to diverse learner needs.
- Support learners to develop numeracy, problem solving, and employability related skills.
- Plan and deliver structured lessons that build confidence and encourage progression.
- Provide constructive feedback, advice, and guidance to help learners reach their potential.
- Adapt teaching methods to support a wide range of abilities, including those with additional needs.
Learner Progress & Support - Design and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) to track progress and set goals.
- Motivate learners through tailored support and differentiated teaching.
- Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
Quality, Compliance & Collaboration - Ensure all teaching meets quality assurance standards and inspection requirements.
- Support learners in working towards recognised, accredited Maths qualifications.
- Contribute effectively to the wider education team and collaborate with colleagues across the site.
- Maintain accurate documentation and uphold safeguarding, equality, and data protection requirements.
Essential Criteria - Minimum Level 2 qualification in Maths and English.
- Strong subject knowledge and expertise in Maths.
- Experience delivering vocational or classroom based training.
- Ability to apply a variety of engaging teaching methods.
- Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Criteria - Recognised teaching or assessing qualification (PTLLS, AET, Cert Ed, DTLLS) or willingness to work towards one.
- Experience supporting diverse learner groups, including those with additional learning needs.
- Experience working within prison education or alternative learning environments (advantageous).
