Network Engineer - Wireless SME
Location: Remote (UK-based)
Travel: Occasional site travel as required (eg site surveys, workshops, testing)
Day Rate: £400-£500 per day (Inside IR35)

We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer - Wireless SME to support a large-scale network modernisation programme, where wireless connectivity is a critical strategy across all locations.
As the network is modernised, wireless design must improve to better support business operations. This role provides specialist expertise to assess, redesign, deploy, and test wireless capability across modernised sites, ensuring performance, coverage, security, and scalability.
This is a specialist SME role, ideal for an engineer with deep hands-on wireless design and optimisation experience.
Key Responsibilities

Assess existing wireless environments across modernised sites

Redesign wireless architectures to improve performance, coverage, and security

Deploy and test wireless solutions for modernised network environments

Diagnose and resolve wireless connectivity, interference, and bandwidth issues

Plan wireless solutions for high-density environments and future scalability

Design and implement secure wireless authentication and encryption

Recommend wireless solutions aligned to business needs

Create technical documentation and network diagrams

Work with cross-functional teams and provide guidance or training to engineers and stakeholders

Stay current with emerging wireless technologies and standards
Essential Skills & Experience

Strong expertise in enterprise wireless networking

In-depth knowledge of Wi-Fi (802.11 standards) and wireless design principles

Strong understanding of wireless design, implementation, and optimisation

Experience diagnosing wireless issues using spectrum analysers and wireless monitoring tools

Strong understanding of wireless security protocols (WPA3, encryption, authentication)

Experience planning wireless networks for high-density environments

Familiarity with major wireless vendors such as Cisco, Aruba, Meraki

Ability to produce clear technical documentation and network diagrams
Bonus/Desirable Skills

Experience with cellular technologies (4G/5G) and emerging wireless protocols

Understanding and experience of visitor guest wireless best practices and deployments

Understanding and experience of resident/hospitality guest wireless deployments
-
Exposure to Wi-Fi 7, IoT connectivity, or private 5G networks
-
Familiarity with Ekahau survey and design kits
