Linux Infrastructure Engineer (Operational/Remediation Focus)
Contract | Immediate Start

We are urgently seeking experienced Windows and Linux Engineers to join a high-pace operational factory environment delivering large-scale server remediation work. This is a hands-on role focused on building, rebuilding, patching, hardening and troubleshooting Servers - not architecture, design or strategy.

The client requires engineers who can reliably execute, follow standards, and deliver at speed in a security-driven environment.
This is an ideal opportunity for engineers who thrive in operational delivery, remediation programmes, and security compliance work.
Key Responsibilities
  • Build, rebuild and bring Windows and Linux Servers online
  • Perform server sanity checks and initial configuration
  • Apply OS hardening and patching using CIS benchmarks and standard scripts
  • Patch operating systems and Linux kernels
  • Integrate Servers into security, monitoring and compliance tooling
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure issues including DNS, networking and connectivity
  • Ensure all systems meet audit and security compliance requirements
  • Support remediation activities in response to security vulnerabilities, breaches or compliance findings
Technical Environment
  • Linux: Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 6, 7, 8)
  • Windows: Windows Server (modern versions plus some 2003/2008 legacy)
  • Virtualisation: VMware
  • Security/Tooling:
    • Microsoft Intune
    • Microsoft Defender
    • Trend Micro (IDR/XDR)
Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong experience administering Windows and/or Linux server environments
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Server builds and rebuilds
    • OS patching and Kernel updates
    • OS hardening and security baselining (CIS, NIST or similar standards)
  • Solid troubleshooting fundamentals:
    • DNS
    • Networking and connectivity
    • Authentication and system services
  • Experience working in remediation programmes, security response, vulnerability management or post-incident recovery is highly desirable
  • Ability to follow standard build, hardening and operational procedures precisely
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, delivery-focused environments
Working Pattern
  • Shift-based working between 07:00 - 19:00
  • Typical shift likely 11:00 - 19:00
  • Flexibility required for:
    • Occasional out-of-hours work
    • Weekend support when needed
  • Shifts overlap with offshore teams in India
