We are working with a well-established and progressive logistics business based in Dover, who are looking to appoint a Customs Manager to lead their established customs function. This is a senior, hands-on role overseeing a 24/7 operation, with responsibility for technical compliance, people leadership and the continued growth of the department. The successful candidates must display strong technical customs experience and have great people management skills.

Main responsibilities:

• Take full ownership of the customs department, leading a team of clerks and senior clerks across day and night shifts
• Ensure all import and export customs activity is completed accurately, compliantly and on time
• Provide strong technical guidance and oversight on customs clearance matters
• Manage rotas, performance, appraisals and more complex people issues
• Handle difficult conversations in a firm but fair manner
• Maintain and improve customs systems, tools and working practices
• Monitor performance, risk and compliance using data and reporting
• Work closely with internal teams, including operations and sales, to support service delivery and growth
• Play a key role in the ongoing development and progression of the customs function

Key Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience managing a customs function
• Strong technical knowledge of customs clearance and compliance
• Confident people manager with experience leading teams in operational environments
• Comfortable supporting a 24/7 operation
• Calm under pressure with strong decision-making ability
• Forward-thinking, proactive and commercially aware
• Approachable leadership style with the ability to set and hold standards
