Overview
Senior Director, Finance Transformation is a key member of Vertex Global Finance and will lead transformational workstreams including projects aimed at improving Global Finance processes, implementing and enhancing finance systems, and supporting enterprise reporting capabilities. Reporting to the VP, Global Process Excellence, Finance Systems and Reporting, this role ensures Vertex's global finance teams can scale efficiently by optimizing global processes, implementing and enhancing finance systems, and building scalable global capabilities for enterprise planning and reporting. The role requires influence without authority and an enterprise-wide view of where global processes and solutions are most effective and efficient for Vertex. The role leads a team of finance professionals to partner with the broader finance organization, assess complex process, data and reporting gaps, make recommendations on new ways of working, and lead and/or facilitate projects to implement identified solutions.
Success in this role requires a deep understanding of Vertex's business and strategy, including drug development processes, experience in designing and implementing complex global processes and finance systems, and the ability to lead and manage change. The ideal candidate will collaborate effectively within Finance and with cross-functional stakeholders and leaders to ensure strategic and operational alignment. Collaboration with business teams including R&D, Manufacturing & Supply Chain, Commercial and the PPM organization is paramount.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Strategize with finance and business leaders to identify and prioritize global process, data and technology optimization opportunities to enable Vertex's growth, manage the roadmap of these priorities, and drive cross-functional innovation and business partnering.
- Partner with Finance leadership to develop a strategy for efficient scaling in the short term and readiness for rapid technology advancement.
- Build and manage a high-performing team, drive the organization forward, and foster an inclusive environment.
- Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and collaboration to partner with senior leaders and execute multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously.
- Support Vertex growth by using data and technology platforms to enable operating efficiencies, growth, and scalable, compliant, risk-balanced processes.
- Lead process, data and systems enhancement workstreams to optimize data-driven insights for integrated enterprise decision making.
- Champion Vertex global financial data structures to organize and govern data for effective performance management and decision support as Vertex grows.
- Partner with Finance, PPM, HR, Accounting and DTE to build integrated enterprise planning capabilities for short- and long-term decision making and resource allocation.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively, identify where change management is needed, and develop plans of action to address gaps.
- Develop and coach global finance team members to encourage growth and maintain an inclusive team atmosphere.
- Utilize data analytics and metrics to identify trends, make recommendations and mitigate resourcing and financial risks.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, Finance or Accounting.
- MBA and CPA a plus.
- Typically requires several years of relevant experience in a finance managerial role with strong technical and analytical skills, team-based experience, deep understanding of financial systems, expertise in analytics and information visualization, and strategic vision for future finance work practices.

- Ability to influence senior leaders including DTE LT, FLT, HR LT and PPM LT to gain alignment.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of drug development process with solid business acumen; knowledge of Vertex markets/products a plus.
- Experience leveraging Lean and Six Sigma to identify opportunities and implement action plans.
- Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Proactive, organized, and capable of managing shifting priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Broad understanding of different business systems, processes and theories.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay Range: $212,000 - $318,000
Disclosures
The range provided is based on a reasonable estimate for base salary at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may be eligible for overtime pay in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary will be based on factors including skills, competencies, experience, and other factors permitted by law.
