Summary: The Cincinnati VA Medical Center (VAMC) is searching for a Full time Staff Cardiologist to fulfill the current staffing needs of the facility. The Cincinnati VAMC is an active teaching hospital affiliated with and within walking distance of the University of Cincinnati. The Cardiologist will primarily serve in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. The 2-page resume requirement does not apply to this occupational series. Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or equivalent
  • The degree must have been obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of graduation
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. state/territory/commonwealth or the District of Columbia
  • Residency Training: Residency in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Must qualify for a faculty appointment at the University of Cincinnati
  • Maintain BLS and ACLS certification
  • Preferred Experience: Board eligible/board certified in Cardiology
  • Training in Heart Failure strongly desired (additional training after general Cardiology fellowship)

  • Physical Requirements: A physical examination will be conducted based on the position's requirements
  • Long periods of standing or walking in the operating room and outpatient settings
  • Ability to recall, reason, solve problems, hear, speak clearly, write legibly, read, and think logically
Duties
  • Provide clinical care in Cardiology and supervise the education of Residents, Fellows, and Medical Students
  • Serve as acting chief of the section as appropriate
  • Guide and support physician assistants and nurse practitioners in Medical Service areas
  • Supervise medical students and residents assigned to services and clinics according to facility standards
  • Participate in facility committees and Continuous Quality Improvement programs as assigned
  • Provide quality, patient-centered care to inpatients and outpatients (adults 18-65 and older adults 65+) as assigned
  • Demonstrate sound clinical and administrative decision-making
  • Serve as staff attending for sub-specialty consult services as assigned
  • Lead changes in patient care programs based on current concepts and research
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge through continuing medical education
  • Complete all medical record documentation within prescribed timeframes
  • Participate in education of residents, fellows, and medical students via rounds, lectures, and conferences
  • Demonstrate and train learners in procedures required for optimal patient care
  • Support development and implementation of education and training programs for students and residents
  • Meet scholarly activity requirements when applicable
  • Adhere to VA research policies if involved in ongoing projects
  • Work Schedule: Generally Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-4:30 pm, with possible additional hours for acute patient care; some weekend calls and inpatient rounds
