Serco-NA has an opening for and immediately hiring an Acoustic Engineer supporting the Acoustics Systems Integration Team in PMS450, the VIRGINIA Class Submarine program office. As the Acoustic Engineer, you will be on a dynamic team providing technical and programmatic support to PMS450 and the U.S. Navy's Team Submarine Program Offices at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC. This role supports the Navy's premier attack submarine program and its multi-mission capabilities.
PMS450 is the acquisition program office for the New Construction of Attack Submarines and for identifying, assembling, managing, directing, and coordinating the resources required for R&D, design, construction, Test and Evaluation (T&E), Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E), and Fleet introduction of the U.S. Navy\'s newest class of nuclear attack submarines. VIRGINIA Class submarines support core maritime capabilities including Deterrence, Maritime Security, Sea Control, Forward Presence, and Power Projection.
In This Role, You Will
- Support PMS450 evaluation of proposed designs and arrangements.
- Maintain expert-level knowledge of ship specification sections and interpret technical requirements to verify program compliance.
- Review technical submittals, provide assessments and recommendations, consolidate differing viewpoints, and define options with pros and cons.
- Liaise with the Red-Box TWHs and 08 for the systems under cognizance.
- Have in-depth knowledge of how every aspect of the VACL submarine and its components affect the acoustic signature and how to minimize it to increase survivability.
- Assist SDMs/DSDMs/MAITs in de-conflicting technical viewpoints and program constraints.
- Co-lead NAVSEA Ship\'s Silencing Working Group, including conducting NRP audits/shipchecks to validate as-built configuration.
- Manage commitment updates/status.
- Identify technical issues and facilitate resolution with applicable SITs; enable timely decisions and review of design products and written correspondence.
- Act as a liaison with other PMS450 team members and NAVSEA05 Technical Warrant Holders (TWH).
- Be a primary customer contact for all activities, regularly meeting with and updating the customer on project status.
- Establish and maintain relationships with the program manager, deputy program manager and/or technical lead.
- Lead program review sessions with the customer to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance.
- Provide acquisition management planning and execution support.
- Lead technical discussions for project reviews, including preparing and delivering formal briefings.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have
- A secret clearance and U.S. Citizenship.
- Bachelor\'s degree in any engineering, math, physics, technical or related discipline and 7 years of experience.
- Ability to work assigned tasks in accordance with SOPs or specifications independently without direction.
- Ability to work well within a team.
- Accountability and responsibility mindset.
- willingness to work outside recognized working hours to fulfill a task.
- Ability to absorb significant amounts of classified material prior to independent task execution.
- Comfort working within multiple engineering disciplines (ship architecture, electrical, electronics, piping, structures and HVAC).
- Excellent technical writing skills and attention to detail.
- Up to 10% travel.
Additional Desired Skills And Experience
- Active duty experience in the submarine service is a plus.
- Some experience with Navy acquisition and/or In-Service Programs.
- Recent experience in Team Submarine would be ideal.
