Express Employment is partnering with a Local Multi-Grain Processing facility where they specialize in dehulling, pearling and grinding barley, polishing off the outer endosperm to specific size and color parameters in accordance with customer specifications. Additionally, they stabilize and flake oat groats for snack and cereal customers, and de-heats yellow and brown mustard seed for its spice and flavorings clients. In total, The Plant processes and ships over 40 million pounds to customers in bulk truck and rail, bulk totes, and 50lb bags, serving customers in industrial, food, feed and pet food market segments across North America.
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Plant and chiefly focused on the facility grain flaking and utility operations. Willing to temporarily work extended hours, holidays and/or weekends as needed. Other duties as assigned by management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Safety, Health and Regulatory: S uccessfully engage with the safety program, supporting adherence to all applicable laws as well as the plants safety initiatives: in written documentation, team actions, and program intent. Maintain all relevant MN state operating permits and certifications for their boiler and utility operations.
- Quality Assurance: A process orientated approach to problem solving will be needed in resolving issues, either with external or internal stakeholders. Experience with TQM, 5-S, Six Sigma, or other disciplines would be beneficial. This position will lead the the plants flaker operations such that customer quality, paperwork and service expectations are successfully met.
- Sanitation and Food Safety: Support and follow GMP's, HACCP programs, and the plants successful 3rd party audit or customer audit results. Responsible for department contributions to their food safety efforts.
- Employee Development: Improve employees' skills, training, and process knowledge. Take an active role in the professional development of the flaker department, supporting members' development congruent with their business need and individual's career goals. Responsible for department staffing needs, scheduling, and retention
- Operations and Utility Maintenance: Lead and support flaker operations, executing production in accordance with the plant scheduling; prioritizing customer satisfaction, safety, quality, and plant efficiencies. Manage production and inventory through LEAN manufacturing philosophies. Fully implement effective work order management, preventative, and predictive maintenance programs for the flaker department. Safely operate the plants boiler in compliance with all applicable MN state permits, certifications, and license requirements. Primary holder of the plants state boiler license.
- Continuous Improvement: Knowledgeable of processes to develop and execute improvement initiatives. Experience in LEAN manufacturing and reliability centered maintenance programs is preferred. Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills are key to success.
QUALIFICATION:
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in food/food related industry OR 5 years in grain processing/elevator management
- Minimum 2 year direct supervisory experience is preferred
- Demonstrated process and mechanical aptitude, leadership skills
Required Job Skills:
Must be able to use personal computer equipment and be proficient in MS Word and Excel to support office work and administrative functions. Experience with plant/equipment maintenance programs. Computer literate and an effective team communicator.
Minimum Required Education:
High School Degree or Equivalent REQUIRED
Bachelor's Degree PREFERRED: Agribusiness Management, Engineering, Food Science, or related fields
Agriculture/Food/Grain Handling Experience a Plus
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS, COURSES OR OTHER TRAINING
- Safety Training. OSHA/DOT/Forklift Certified
- Maintenance Certification/LEAN Manufacturing
- Food Safety/Quality Process Training/SQF
- Team Leadership/Problem Solving
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Plant production environment. Exposure to ambient working conditions with the potential for temperature extremes. Ladder ascension/descension etc. Ability and willingness to wear PPE
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. in a plant environment.
- Occasional periods of standing and walking through the facility and/or operational support for team members
- 30-50% office work
