The Legal Counsel - NBFC will be responsible for handling all legal matters related to collections and recoveries for consumer finance portfolios.

The role aims to strengthen and structure legal actions as the collections portfolio scales, ensuring regulatory compliance, effective litigation management, and strong coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

• Create, review, and update legal process notes in line with applicable laws and evolving business requirements.
• Hire, train, manage, and evaluate external advocates, legal panels, and vendors.
• Act as the single point of contact for providing legal guidance to Collections and Recovery teams.
• Ensure regulatory and legal compliance across agreements, documentation, and recovery processes.
• Initiate, manage, and defend legal cases including consumer cases, recovery matters, NCLT, RERA, arbitration, Section 138 of NI Act, and civil & criminal proceedings.
• Maintain accurate MIS, case trackers, and documentation for all legal cases involving customers.

• Staying updated with frequent changes in legal and regulatory frameworks.
• Managing multiple legal matters with tight timelines and high business impact.
• Ensuring effective coordination between business teams and external counsels.

Decision-Making Authority

• Approving legal deviations in case filings and recovery actions.
• Ensuring end-to-end regulatory and legal compliance.
• Taking independent legal decisions with escalation and guidance where required.

Stakeholder Interactions

• Internal interaction with business heads, senior management, and legal leadership.
• External coordination with lawyers, legal panels, vendors, and counterparties.

Eligibility Criteria

• Law graduate (LLB/BA LLB/BCom LLB).
• 10+ years of legal experience, preferably in NBFCs, consumer finance, or lending organizations.
• Strong exposure to collections, recoveries, and litigation management.
