Nurse Practitioner - Adult Medical Surgical
The UCSF Hospital-Based Oncology Consult Service provides inpatient care for adult patients with suspected or confirmed solid tumor malignancies. This Nurse Practitioner (NP) role is based on that service and involves delivering high-quality, evidence-based oncology care across UCSF's Medical Centers at Parnassus Heights and Mission Bay. The NP will collaborate closely with attending oncologists, consulting teams, and the broader care staff to evaluate patients, develop treatment plans, and manage oncology-specific needs during hospitalization. Core responsibilities include conducting comprehensive assessments, ordering and managing inpatient chemotherapy, coordinating discharges, and facilitating seamless transitions to outpatient care. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with no weekend or call responsibilities.
Responsibilities- Provide inpatient oncology care as part of the Hospital-Based Oncology Consult Service.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop evidence-based treatment plans.
- Order and manage inpatient chemotherapy and other oncology-specific therapies.
- Coordinate discharge planning and transitions to outpatient care.
- Collaborate with attending physicians, consulting teams, and care staff; participate in multidisciplinary rounds as needed.
- Maintain high level of clinical autonomy within the inpatient oncology team.
- Required: Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing approved or verified school of nursing with a master's degree in nursing or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).
- One (1) year of recent medical oncology or malignant hematology Nurse Practitioner experience or completion of a one (1) year comprehensive oncology APP fellowship program.
- Three (3) years or more direct care experience in oncology.
- California RN license without restriction.
- California NP license without restriction and NP Furnishing Number.
- NP national board certification aligned with the patient population and clinical role (eg, Adult Inpatient).
- California Driver License (if required for position).
- DEA registration with appropriate schedules registered to a California address.
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS); other required AHA certifications as applicable.
