Additional Compensation & Bonus Eligibility
  • $30,000 recruitment incentive may be approved as an addition to the base salary.
  • $3,000 annual bonus for physicians who are Board-Certified in their area of practice.
  • $5,000 annual bonus for physicians with a related second Board (eg, Forensic Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry).
  • Reimbursement for voluntary on-call and weekend coverage.
  • 16 paid hours per month for Continuing Medical Education or Professional Development/Maintenance of Certification.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

Accountable for clinical administrative/supervisory functions and direct psychiatric care as a board-certified advanced clinician.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • Provide 24-hour supervision and on-call coverage.
  • Conduct rounds and supervise multidisciplinary teams.
  • Coordinate medical staff work with related programs.
  • Review treatment plans, clinical records, diagnoses, and discharge plans for policy compliance.
  • Provide education and training (grand rounds, case conferences).
  • Assign and evaluate staff and on-site physicians or psychiatrists.
  • Participate in meetings on clinical & administrative policy and research.
  • Assess and evaluate patients for admission or discharge.
  • Diagnose and prescribe appropriate medications and treatments.
  • Perform advanced risk assessments.
  • Consult on complex cases.
  • Implement QA/QI improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare or review reports, records, and correspondence.
  • Perform utilization review and management functions.
  • Serve as a state witness in court hearings.
  • Perform related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
  • Considerable knowledge of method and principles of behavioral health medicine, assessment and treatment of psychiatric and substance use disorders, and recent developments in the field.
  • Considerable interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to diagnose, assess, and treat patients, prescribe medications, and conduct psychotherapy.
  • Ability to develop a collaborative practice environment with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to analyze laboratory reports, imaging, and other medical data.
  • Strong administrative and supervisory abilities.
Minimum Qualifications - General Experience

Holder must be a specialist in psychiatry certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, or board-certified in Adult or Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Special Requirements
  • Must hold a valid Connecticut medical license (temporary license up to one year is permissible).
  • Must meet eligibility for federal health care program participation per 42?U.S.C.?§?1320a-7b(f).
  • May require additional specialty certification (geriatrics, ABI/TBI, forensic psychiatry, substance abuse, etc.).
  • May require appropriate current licenses, certifications, or permits.
  • May require bilingual ability.
