Function/Duties of PositionCardiac Intensive Care Faculty for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). This Full time faculty role focuses on providing standardized, high-quality cardiac intensive care, collaborating with CVICU Medical Directors, intensivists, cardiologists, and surgeons. Responsibilities include clinical service, consultation, education, and quality improvement.
Clinical Workload- CVICU service: 12-14 weeks per year with night call commensurate with clinical FTE
- Clinical consultation: 4-8 hours per week
- Daytime consultation for complex post-operative patients
- Nighttime and weekend consultation for critically ill patients as needed
- Monitoring of neonate and pediatric cardiac patient trajectories
- Regular cardiac team huddles
- Weekly PICU case conference
- Weekly cardiac case conference, sign-in conference, and morbidity & mortality conferences (weekly, monthly, quarterly)
- Maintain and improve quality and operations of cardiac intensive care
- Ensure consistency and patient satisfaction
- Drive efficiencies (reduce length of stay, failure-to-recover, cardiac arrest)
- Active peri-operative care involvement and decision-making
- Survey best practices and update care maps
- Advocate for patients in post-operative settings
- Provide consultation for complex cardiac patients
- Academic appointment with clinical, research, and educational duties
- Mentorship and support for promotion and tenure tracks
- Teaching of the next generation of health professionals
- Engagement in basic, clinical, and applied research and translation to health and commercial sectors
- Leadership and advocacy for improving health in Oregon
- Active clinical practice with continuing medical education
- Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and teaching skills
- Effective collaboration in inter-professional environments
- Professional and diplomatic communication style
- Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinicians and students
- Board certification in Pediatric Critical Care plus one year of Cardiac Critical Care training, or additional Pediatric Cardiology board certification
