Job Summary
The Division of Cardiology in the department of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking a clinically oriented ABIM board-certified faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor to serve as an academic cardiologist to participate in both inpatient and outpatient services within the vastly expanding activities within the division. Opportunities exist to focus on areas such as vascular medicine, onco-cardiology, non-transplant heart failure (any mix). Opportunities to participate in echocardiography and other aspects of non-invasive imaging are present to the extent that they are desired. Opportunities abound to work with house staff, fellows, and physician extenders. Education and clinical research will be available as well based on experience and expertise. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
Responsibilities
- Outpatient General Cardiology Practice - 40%: Develop a robust outpatient general cardiology practice, staffing four half days per week at the Wellstar downtown practice sites and/or satellite locations and the fellow's clinic as needed. These clinics may be restricted or cancelled when on inpatient service.
- Wards and Inpatient Consult Services/ECG Reading Rotation - 20%: Participate in the wards and inpatient consult services and ECG reading rotations. Clinical duties will be reduced when staffing ward and consult inpatient services.
- Call Schedule - 5%: Participate in the night weekend call schedules similar to colleagues.
- Cardiac Imaging Procedures - 25%: Participate in cardiac imaging procedures (echo, cardiac CT, cardiac MRI, cardiac nuclear) one to two half days per week.
- Teaching/Research - 10%: Teach and supervise ancillary general cardiology personnel, including advanced practice providers and nurse coordinators when needed; active participation in Division teaching activities supporting medical students, residents, and cardiology fellows. Participate in scholarly activities including publication of case reports, review articles, and original scientific reports.
Required Qualifications
- MD/DO or equivalent. Board Eligible/Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease.
- Assistant Professor - Early level career faculty member with appropriate postgraduate training.
- Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
- Professor - Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
- Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions: consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges requirements for institutional accreditation; evidence of ability as a teacher; evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned; successful experience (waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal-year based and works year-round. The intended work commitment or Full time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time. Salary and compensation for each rank are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and are subject to availability of funds.
