Position Overview
The Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration (VCFA) serves as the executive officer directly responsible for providing leadership and general management for the university finance, foundation finance, facilities, human resources, campus enterprises, emergency management, planning/performance management, police, risk and insurance service units. The VCFA will foster a strong customer service orientation, implement best practices and innovations in operations and finance, and serve as a responsible steward of human and fiscal resources.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Master's Degree or advanced degree in a relevant field or an equivalent record of professional achievement.
- 10 years of senior management experience in financial administration, administrative services, business administration, or facilities management.
- An understanding of higher education industry, organizational structures, and funding models.
- Demonstrated strategic leadership experience developing and executing fiscal and operational plans in a complex organization.
- Ability to participate as an active, senior-level contributor in university planning and policy-making.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a track record of building a culture of trust, mutual respect, and transparency in decision-making.
- A direct, inclusive decision-making and management style.
- Experience identifying new financing opportunities, including public/private partnerships, economic development projects, and entrepreneurial ventures.
- Ability to integrate current technology and best practices into all functional areas.
- Devotion to the highest ethical standards and personal and professional integrity.
- A proactive, change-oriented doer who is engaged in cultural, structural, and operational change.
- Understanding of the public higher-education system and state budget processes (preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
- Successful senior-administration experience in higher education with a record of leadership in finance and administration.
- Experience in public-sector budget development and management, business accounting theory, and fiscal operations.
- Deep understanding of the public higher-education system and its interaction with state budget processes.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Tasks
- Develop and lead the Division of Finance and Administration, including university finance, foundation finance, facilities, human resources, campus enterprises, emergency management, planning/performance management, police, risk, and insurance.
- Implement best practices and innovations in operations and finance, ensuring effectiveness and fiscal stewardship.
- Collaborate with the Chancellor and Provost on strategic planning and policymaking; represent the university at internal and external forums.
- Serve as a liaison to the UNCG Board of Trustees and the UNC Board of Governors, promoting the university's interests.
- Lead the development and implementation of the campus master plan; advise on financial impacts of campus operations, budgeting, and capital planning.
- Oversee financial planning, budgeting, analysis, and internal auditing; deliver annual operating and capital budgets.
- Manage financing strategies, major construction, real property development, and maintenance programs; serve as treasurer or board member as required.
- Engage the broader Greensboro community, serving on boards, building relationships with local policymakers, corporate and civic leaders, and representing the university.
