About Imbue

Imbue builds AI systems that reason and write code, enabling agents to pursue complex goals and operate safely in the real world. We train our own foundation models optimized for reasoning and build agent systems on top of them, using these agents daily to learn how to improve both model capability and human-AI interaction.

Our broader mission is to rekindle the dream of the personal computer: tools that genuinely empower people, expand agency, and help them pursue the things they care about. We're a highly technical, thoughtful team working at the intersection of research, product, and real-world use.

Why This Role Exists

Imbue is building product from first principles. We're still in the 0?1 phase-not just defining features, but deciding what the product should be and why it matters.

This role exists for someone who wants real ownership over that process. As a Senior Product Engineer, you'll help shape both the product itself and the way it's built, working directly with users, designers, and researchers. You won't just implement ideas-you'll help decide which ideas are worth building.

This role is especially compelling for someone who has been, or aspires to be, a founder of a software product company.

What You'll Own

You'll operate as a full-stack, product-minded engineer with deep agency. Your work will span user understanding, prototyping, and production systems.

You will:

  • Conduct user interviews and deeply understand real customer problems

  • Build rough prototypes to explore new product ideas or iterations

  • Collect, parse, and synthesize feedback from internal and external users

  • Quickly assemble abstractions that enable fast iteration-and delete code that doesn't improve product fit

  • Ship Back End and Front End code across multiple interfaces (web, CLI, IDE, etc.)

  • Partner closely with product designers to turn promising ideas into shipped features

  • Contribute directly to product direction and roadmap decisions

Who Will Thrive Here

You're a builder with strong product intuition. You care deeply about users, sweat the details, and are comfortable navigating ambiguity without waiting for perfect instructions.

You likely are:

  • Motivated by solving real problems for real customers

  • Energized by talking to users and learning from them

  • Comfortable operating in loosely defined problem spaces

  • Opinionated, but pragmatic about what actually matters

  • Interested in (or experienced with) founding or building early-stage products

Requirements
  • Strong experience building product-focused software systems

  • Proficiency with React/TypeScript and Python

  • Experience working across the stack, from Front End UX to Back End logic

  • Ability to iterate quickly, make judgment calls, and balance speed with quality

  • Comfort working independently in ambiguous environments

  • Strong communication skills and collaborative instincts

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive compensation, equity, and benefits

  • Cash compensation range: $170,000-$350,000 (plus equity), depending on role scope and experience

  • Lunch provided daily for onsite employees

  • $250 monthly lifestyle stipend

  • Generous self-improvement budget (coaching, courses, conferences, etc.)

  • Time and space to read, learn, and deeply understand prior work

  • Frequent team events, dinners, off-sites, and informal hangouts

  • A team culture intentionally built around curiosity, respect, and ownership

Why Join Now

Joining Imbue now means having real leverage. You'll help define a product while it's still being shaped, alongside people who care deeply about quality, judgment, and long-term impact.

If you want to build something meaningful from the ground up-and see your decisions directly shape the product and the company-this role gives you that opportunity.
